If you are looking for NDA coaching in Dadar, the first thing worth understanding is that the National Defence Academy selection is not one exam — it is two very different assessments back to back, and most candidates prepare seriously for only the first. D.I.C.E. Institute runs its Dadar batches from Office No. 33, 3rd Floor, Bismilla Building, Ranade Road, opposite Suvidha, near Dadar Railway Station, Dadar West.
The written paper is conducted by the UPSC. Clear it, and you are called for the Services Selection Board, where the assessment shifts entirely — from what you know to how you think, decide and work with other people. Eligibility, age limits and the exam calendar change between cycles, so read the current official UPSC notification before you apply. What follows is how the selection is built and how we prepare students for both halves of it.
What the NDA Written Exam Actually Weighs
The written stage has two papers, and the mark distribution surprises most candidates:
- Paper 1 — Mathematics: 300 marks.
- Paper 2 — General Ability Test: 600 marks, split into English and General Knowledge.
Read that again. The General Ability Test carries twice the marks of Mathematics, yet the majority of aspirants spend the majority of their study hours on Maths because it feels more like school work. That imbalance is the single most common reason a capable student misses the cut-off.
Paper 1 — Mathematics
The syllabus sits at roughly Class 11 and 12 level: algebra, matrices and determinants, trigonometry, analytical geometry, differential calculus, integration, vectors, statistics and probability. The questions are not exotic. What they are is numerous and timed, so the skill being tested is accurate calculation under pressure rather than deep theory. There is negative marking, so disciplined question selection matters as much as knowing the method.
Paper 2 — General Ability Test
This paper is where the exam is won. The English portion tests grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. The General Knowledge portion is genuinely broad — Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography and Current Events. You cannot cram it in the last month, which is precisely why we start General Ability from week one of the batch rather than treating it as revision material.
The SSB Interview Is Half the Marks
The Services Selection Board carries 900 marks — as much as the entire written examination. It runs across several days and is designed so that rehearsed answers fall apart.
- Screening — an intelligence test and a picture perception and discussion exercise. A large share of candidates are sent home on day one.
- Psychological tests — story writing, word association and situation reaction, all under tight time limits so your first instinct is what gets recorded.
- Group testing — outdoor tasks, group discussion and planning exercises run by the Group Testing Officer, watching how you behave inside a team rather than in front of an examiner.
- Personal interview and conference — a long conversation about your own life, choices and reasoning.
You cannot mug up your way through this. What you can do is practise the formats until the time pressure stops being the problem, and get honest feedback on how you come across. Our defence batch builds SSB work in from the start instead of leaving it until a call letter arrives.
How the Dadar NDA Batch Is Structured
Dadar is the junction where the Central and Western lines meet, so students travelling from Matunga, Parel, Sion, Wadala, Bandra or Andheri reach the same classroom without changing trains. That matters for school students fitting classes around Class 11 and 12 timetables.
- Mathematics and General Ability run in parallel every week, weighted toward GAT to match the actual mark distribution.
- Current affairs is a standing weekly slot, not a handout, because the General Knowledge section rewards steady accumulation.
- Full-length mocks on the real pattern, followed by a discussion class where the point is to work out why a wrong answer felt right.
- SSB groundwork — practice with the psychological formats and group tasks, so the board is not the first time you attempt them.

Who Should Be Considering NDA
NDA suits candidates who are still in or have just finished school and are certain about a career in the armed forces. Stream requirements differ by wing — the Air Force and Navy expect Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Class 12, while the Army wing is open to other streams. The age window is narrow and candidates must be unmarried. Because these conditions are revised from time to time, confirm every one of them against the current UPSC notification before building a plan around it.
If you are already a graduate, NDA is closed to you but the defence route is not — CDS is the equivalent entry point, and we cover it in the same programme. Aspirants weighing several options usually start at our defence coaching in Thane page, which sets out how NDA, CDS and AFCAT preparation differ.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is NDA coaching necessary or can I prepare on my own?
Self-study can carry you through the Mathematics paper. Where most independent candidates struggle is the General Ability Test, because its breadth needs a schedule someone else holds you to, and the SSB stage, which is very difficult to practise alone. If you are disciplined and have a study group, self-study is workable. If not, a structured batch mainly buys you pacing and feedback.
Which subject should I focus on first for NDA?
General Ability, because it carries 600 of the 900 written marks and cannot be compressed into the final weeks. Keep Mathematics running alongside it rather than treating either as a separate phase.
Can a Class 11 student join the NDA batch in Dadar?
Yes, and starting in Class 11 is an advantage, because it gives current affairs and General Knowledge the long runway they need. Class schedules are arranged around school hours.
How far is the Dadar centre from Dadar station?
The centre is on Ranade Road in Dadar West, near Dadar Railway Station, which is the interchange between the Central and Western lines.
