What Is SSC MTS?
SSC MTS recruits candidates for Group C, non-gazetted, non-ministerial posts across central government ministries, departments, and offices — one of the most accessible central government exams, open to anyone who has passed Class 10. The same recruitment cycle also covers Havaldar posts under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC) and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), which require an additional Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test for shortlisted candidates. No prior work experience or graduation is required.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: Matriculation (Class 10) pass or equivalent from a recognized board — graduation or higher degrees are not required.
Age Limit:
- MTS posts: 18–25 years
- Havaldar posts (CBIC & CBN): 18–27 years
Age relaxation applies for reserved categories as per government norms.
Nationality: Indian citizen (certain provisions apply for specified categories, per official notification).
(Always verify current-cycle age limits and cut-off dates against the official notification.)
Exam Pattern — Computer Based Test (CBT)
The SSC MTS CBT is conducted as a single exam with two mandatory sessions on the same day. Both sessions must be attempted — skipping either leads to disqualification.
| Session | Sections | Marks | Negative Marking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session 1 | Numerical & Mathematical Ability, Reasoning Ability | 120 | None |
| Session 2 | General Awareness, English Language | 150 | 1 mark per wrong answer |
| Total | 270 (90 questions) |
Session 2 answers are evaluated only if the candidate qualifies Session 1. Minimum qualifying marks are typically 30% (UR), 25% (OBC/EWS), and 20% (other reserved categories).
PET/PST (Havaldar posts only): Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test, conducted for candidates who qualify the CBT and have applied for Havaldar posts under CBIC/CBN.
(Exact marks distribution and qualifying criteria are revised periodically by SSC — our faculty updates class material each cycle to match the current official pattern.)
Selection Process
- Computer Based Test (CBT) — Single exam, two sessions, same day
- PET/PST — For Havaldar post candidates only
- Document Verification — For shortlisted candidates
- Final Selection — Based on CBT performance, and PET/PST clearance for Havaldar posts
Syllabus Covered
- Numerical & Mathematical Ability: Basic arithmetic — number systems, percentages, ratio, averages, simple interest, time & work
- Reasoning Ability: Analogies, classification, series, coding-decoding, basic non-verbal reasoning
