What Is CAT?
CAT is India’s most prestigious MBA entrance exam, used for admission to the 20 IIMs and accepted by over 1,200 other management institutes nationwide. Conducted once a year by one of the IIMs on a rotational basis, it tests analytical thinking, reading ability, and quantitative problem-solving through three sections, with candidates required to move through sections in a fixed sequence and within a strict time limit per section.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university, with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD categories).
Final-Year Students: Eligible to apply, provided they complete their degree requirements by the date specified in the official notification.
Age Limit: No upper age limit.

Sections must be attempted in the fixed order (VARC → DILR → QA) and candidates cannot switch between sections before their allotted 40 minutes. Each correct MCQ answer earns +3 marks, with -1 for each incorrect MCQ. Type-In-The-Answer (TITA) questions have no negative marking. An on-screen calculator is provided for QA and DILR; physical calculators are not allowed.

- WAT/PI (Written Ability Test / Personal Interview) — Conducted by respective IIMs and other institutes
- Final Merit — Combined weightage of CAT score, academic record, work experience (where applicable), and WAT-PI performance, varying by institute
