What Is the Bank SO Exam?
The Bank Specialist Officer exam recruits professionally qualified candidates into public sector banks for specialist, non-generalist roles. Unlike Bank PO or Clerk, eligibility and the Professional Knowledge syllabus differ by post — a candidate applying for IT Officer is tested on computer science fundamentals, while a Law Officer candidate is tested on legal and banking law concepts. The exam is conducted in three stages — Preliminary, Main, and Interview.
Eligibility Criteria (Post-Specific)
| Post | Typical Qualification Required |
|---|---|
| IT Officer | B.E./B.Tech in CS/IT/ECE, or PG in Computer Science/IT/Electronics |
| Law Officer | LLB with enrollment as an advocate, or relevant legal experience |
| HR/Personnel Officer | PG degree/diploma in HR, Personnel Management, or Industrial Relations |
| Marketing Officer | MBA or PG degree/diploma with Marketing specialization |
| Agriculture Field Officer | Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related agricultural science |
| Rajbhasha Adhikari | PG in Hindi with English as a subject at degree level (or vice versa) |
Age Limit: Typically 20–30 years depending on post, with relaxation for reserved categories as per government norms.
(Post-wise eligibility and qualification cut-off dates are set fresh each recruitment cycle — always confirm against the current official notification.)

| Quantitative Aptitude / English Language | Varies by post |
| Professional Knowledge | Post-specific; included in Prelims for most posts under the current pattern |

Exam Pattern — Main Exam
| Section | Notes |
|---|---|
| Professional Knowledge | Post-specific; carries the primary weightage |
| English Language | Common across most posts |
| Descriptive English | Included for select posts under the current pattern |
Mains is post-specific and carries the primary weightage toward final selection. Negative marking applies to objective sections.
(Exact question counts, marks, and duration vary by post and are revised periodically by IBPS — our faculty updates post-specific material each cycle to match the current official pattern.)
