What Is Railway Group C (RRB NTPC)?

RRB NTPC recruits candidates for non-technical posts across Indian Railways, spanning both Graduate Level roles (such as Station Master, Goods Train Manager, and Senior Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk) and Undergraduate Level roles (such as Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Assistant, and Clerk). It’s conducted through a two-stage CBT process, with select posts requiring an additional Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) or Typing Skill Test before final selection.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Educational Qualification:

    • Graduate Level posts: Graduation degree from a recognized university
    • Undergraduate Level posts: 12th pass or equivalent

Age Limit: Typically 18–33 years, varying by post level, with age relaxation for reserved categories as per government norms.

Nationality: Indian citizen (certain provisions apply for specified categories, per official notification).

(Post-wise age limits and qualification cut-off dates are set fresh each recruitment cycle — always confirm against the current official notification.)

Exam Pattern — CBT 1 (Qualifying Stage)

    SectionNo. of QuestionsMarksDuration
    Mathematics2525
    General Intelligence & Reasoning3030
    General Science2525
    General Awareness & Current Affairs2020
Total10010090 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates)

Each correct answer carries 1 mark, with 1/3 mark deducted for every incorrect answer. Reasoning carries the single highest section-wise weightage (30 marks), followed by Mathematics and General Science at 25 marks each, with General Awareness & Current Affairs at 20 marks. Minimum qualifying marks are typically around 40% for UR/EWS and 30% for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST candidates. The question paper is available in 15 languages, and the section order is fixed — candidates must answer sections in the order they appear on screen.

Exam Pattern — CBT 2 (Scoring Stage)

CBT 2 covers the same three subject areas as CBT 1, but at a more advanced difficulty level appropriate to the post applied for, with a higher number of questions within the same 90-minute duration. This stage is both a screening and scoring round — CBT 2 marks are included in the final merit list.

CBAT / Typing Skill Test (post-specific):

    • CBAT is required for Station Master and Traffic Assistant posts, testing memory, spatial visualisation, and selective attention — candidates need a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery to qualify.
    • Typing Skill Test is required for posts involving typing duties, such as Clerk-cum-Typist.

(Exact question counts and qualifying percentage cutoffs are revised periodically by RRB — our faculty updates class material each cycle to match the current official pattern.)

    Selection Process

    1. CBT 1 — Qualifying stage; used to shortlist candidates for CBT 2
    2. CBT 2 — Scoring stage; primary basis for merit
    3. CBAT / Typing Skill Test — For applicable posts (Station Master, Traffic Assistant, Clerk-cum-Typist, etc.)
    4. Document Verification & Medical Examination — Final stage before appointment
