SBI PO is not just “another bank exam”. State Bank sets its own paper, and it is consistently the hardest of the lot — higher-level data interpretation, puzzle sets that run five to six minutes each, a descriptive paper that actually gets read, and a Group Exercise round that no other banking exam has. Our SBI PO coaching in Thane is built around those differences rather than treating it as an IBPS PO clone.
How SBI PO Differs From IBPS PO
| Area | What changes in SBI PO |
|---|---|
| Difficulty | Reasoning and DI are noticeably tougher, especially in Mains |
| Descriptive paper | Letter and essay, evaluated seriously — not a formality |
| Final round | Group Exercise and Discussion in addition to the Personal Interview |
| Sectional timing | Strict per-section timing in Prelims, so you cannot borrow time |
| Cut-offs | Higher, with fewer vacancies relative to the number of applicants |
If you are preparing for both, see our Bank PO course and banking coaching in Thane pages as well.
What the SBI PO Course Covers
Prelims — Speed Phase
English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability with sectional timing of 20 minutes each. Because you cannot carry unused time forward, we train a fixed attempt strategy per section: which question types to pick up first, which to leave, and what a realistic safe score looks like against recent cut-offs.
Mains — Depth Phase
Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economy/Banking Awareness, and English Language. Mains DI is where most candidates lose the paper — caselet DI, missing DI and arithmetic-heavy sets get separate drilling.
Descriptive Paper
Letter writing and essay writing, with word limits and structure practised under time. Every submission gets written feedback, because a descriptive paper you have never had corrected is not preparation.
Group Exercise & Interview
Mock group discussions and group exercises, followed by panel-style mock interviews covering your background, banking awareness and current economic issues.
Who This Course Suits
Final-year graduates and graduates targeting a first serious attempt, and repeaters who have cleared Prelims before but not converted Mains. A large share of our Thane students are working professionals, so evening and weekend batches run alongside the regular schedule, with an online option and recorded lectures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is SBI PO harder than IBPS PO?
Generally yes, in reasoning and data interpretation, and the Group Exercise round adds a stage that IBPS PO does not have. The syllabus is nearly identical — the difficulty and the selection process are what differ.
Can I prepare for SBI PO and IBPS PO in the same year?
Yes, and you should. Prepare at SBI PO difficulty and IBPS PO becomes comfortable. The notifications usually fall in different parts of the calendar, so one preparation cycle can cover both.
What is the eligibility for SBI PO?
A bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Final-year students can usually apply subject to that year’s notification — always confirm against the current exam notification.
How many hours a day do I need?
For a working professional, three to four focused hours on weekdays with longer weekend sessions is a workable plan over six to eight months. Consistency matters far more than marathon days.
Do you provide mock tests in the SBI PO format?
Yes — sectional tests, full Prelims mocks with section timers, Mains mocks and descriptive paper practice. See the test series page.
