What Are Insurance Sector Exams?
India’s public-sector insurance companies recruit graduates through dedicated exams for officer-level posts such as AAO, AO, Assistant Manager, and Development Officer, as well as assistant and clerical posts. Most follow a Prelims-Mains-Interview structure similar to banking exams, with one important difference: Insurance Awareness is a dedicated and heavily weighted topic covering terminology, products, regulations, and industry knowledge.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: A graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university for most officer and assistant posts. Specialist roles such as Legal, Actuarial, IT, or Chartered Accountant may require a relevant professional qualification.
Age Limit: Commonly 21-30 years for officer-level posts, depending on the organization and post, with government-prescribed relaxation for reserved categories.
Nationality: Indian citizen, subject to the provisions in the current official notification.
Post-wise eligibility is set afresh in each recruitment cycle. Always confirm the latest official notification.
Exam Pattern – Prelims
| Section | Notes |

| Reasoning Ability | Puzzles, seating arrangements, syllogisms, inequalities, and coding-decoding |
| Quantitative Aptitude / Numerical Ability | Arithmetic, number series, simplification, and data interpretation |
| English Language | Grammar, comprehension, cloze test, error detection, and para jumbles |
Prelims is typically a 100-question, 100-mark, 60-minute qualifying test. Marks are generally not carried into the final merit list, and a 0.25-mark penalty is common for incorrect answers.
