What Is the Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE)?

AISSEE is the national-level entrance exam for admission into Sainik Schools, CBSE-affiliated institutions under the Ministry of Defence that prepare students academically and in discipline for future entry into the NDA and other military institutions. It’s conducted for two entry points — Class 6 (for students currently completing Class 5) and Class 9 (for students currently completing Class 8) — through a single offline objective test with no negative marking.

    Eligibility Criteria

    For Class 6 Admission:

    • Age: Typically 10–12 years as of the specified date in the official notification
    • Academic requirement: Should have passed Class 5 from a recognized school by the time of admission

    For Class 9 Admission:

    • Age: Typically 13–15 years as of the specified date in the official notification
    • Academic requirement: Should be currently studying in or have passed Class 8 from a recognized school

Both boys and girls are eligible to apply.

(Exact age-bracket birth-date ranges are set fresh each cycle — always confirm against the current official notification.)

    Exam Pattern — Class 6

Section No. of Questions Marks Marks per Question
    Mathematics 50 150 3
    General Knowledge (Science & Social Studies) 25 50 2
    Language (chosen medium) 25 50 2
    Intelligence 25 50 2
    Total 125 300 150 minutes (2.5 hours)

No negative marking. Mathematics alone carries exactly half the total marks (150 of 300) — a weighting many parents underestimate, since a weak Maths score can’t realistically be offset by strong GK or Language performance at this ratio. The syllabus is based on concepts typically covered up to Class 5 (NCERT).

    Exam Pattern — Class 9

    Section Notes
    Mathematics
    English
    Intelligence
    General Science
    Social Studies
    Total 150 questions

No negative marking. The syllabus is based on concepts typically covered up to Class 8.

Minimum Qualifying Criteria (General Category): Candidates typically need at least 25% marks in each individual subject and 40% in aggregate to qualify — category-wise relaxations apply as per official norms.

(Exact section-wise marks distribution and qualifying percentages are set by NTA each cycle — our faculty updates class material to match the current official pattern.)

    Selection Process

    1. Written Exam (AISSEE) — Offline, OMR-based, no negative marking
    2. Merit List — Category-wise, state-wise, and school-wise merit lists prepared based on exam score
    3. Medical Examination — For shortlisted candidates
    4. Document Verification & Admission — Final stage before joining
