What Is SSC CGL?
SSC CGL recruits graduates for Group B and Group C posts across central government ministries, departments, and organisations — including well-known roles in the Income Tax Department, Customs & Excise, Central Bureau of Investigation, and Enforcement Directorate. It’s one of India’s largest graduate-level government exams by applicant volume, conducted in two tiers, with final posting based on merit, post preference, and document verification.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university (some specific posts, such as Statistical Investigator, have additional subject requirements).
Age Limit: Generally between 18–32 years, varying by post — always check the specific post’s age bracket in the official notification.
Nationality: Indian citizen (certain provisions apply for specified categories, per official notification).
(Always verify current-cycle age limits and post-wise qualification requirements against the official notification.)
Exam Pattern — Tier I
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 25 | 50 | |
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 | |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 | |
| English Comprehension | 25 | 50 | |
| Total | 100 | 200 | 60 minutes (15 min/section) |
Tier I is qualifying in nature — marks are not counted toward final selection. Negative marking of 0.50 marks applies for each incorrect answer. Sectional timing means candidates cannot move between sections before their allotted 15 minutes is used or expires.
Exam Pattern — Tier II
| Paper | Applicable To |
|---|---|
| Paper I | Compulsory for all posts |
| Paper II | Statistics-related posts (Junior Statistical Officer, Statistical Investigator Grade-II) |
| Paper III | Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer posts |
Tier II is the scoring stage — final selection is based on Tier II performance, post preference, and eligibility. Negative marking in Tier II Paper I is stricter than Tier I, with 1 mark deducted per wrong answer in some sections — an attempt strategy that works for Tier I can hurt your score here if not adjusted.
(Section-wise question counts, marks, and duration within Tier II are revised periodically by SSC — our faculty updates class material each cycle to match the current official pattern.)
Selection Process
- Tier I — Qualifying stage
