What Is the Bank PO Exam?

The Bank Probationary Officer exam recruits graduates into public sector banks for management-track roles. It’s conducted in three stages — Preliminary, Main, and Interview — and tests candidates on quantitative aptitude, reasoning, English language, banking/general awareness, and written communication through a descriptive paper in Mains. Selected candidates begin as Probationary Officers, a role that typically leads into branch management and other officer-level positions within the bank.

    Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Final-year students can generally apply, subject to completing their degree by the date specified in the official notification.

Age Limit: Typically between 20–30 years, with age relaxation for reserved categories as per government norms.

Nationality: Indian citizen (certain provisions apply for specified categories of foreign nationals, per official notification).

(Always verify current-cycle age limits and qualification cut-off dates against the official notification — these are reviewed and updated with each recruitment year.)
