What Is SSC CHSL?
SSC CHSL recruits 12th-pass candidates for clerical, assistant, and data-entry roles in central government offices — including posts like Lower Division Clerk, Junior Secretariat Assistant, and Data Entry Operator. It’s conducted in two tiers, both computer-based, with Tier I serving as a qualifying/shortlisting stage and Tier II determining final selection through a combination of a computer-based exam and a mandatory skill or typing test.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: 12th standard pass (or equivalent) from a recognized board. Candidates applying for DEO Grade-A posts in certain ministries need to have passed 12th in the Science stream with Mathematics.
Age Limit: Generally 18–27 years, with age relaxation for reserved categories as per government norms.
Nationality: Indian citizen (certain provisions apply for specified categories, per official notification).
(Always verify current-cycle age limits and post-wise qualification requirements against the official notification.)
Exam Pattern — Tier I
| Section | Questions | Marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Intelligence | 25 | 50 | |
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 | |
| Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic) | 25 | 50 | |
| English Language (Basic) | 25 | 50 | |
| Total | 100 | 200 | 60 minutes |
Tier I is qualifying/shortlisting in nature. Negative marking of 0.50 marks applies for each incorrect answer.
Exam Pattern — Tier II
Tier II is a Computer-Based Examination combined with a mandatory Skill Test or Typing Test, depending on the post applied for:
| Component | Notes |
|---|---|
| Objective CBE | Covers core sections at a more advanced level than Tier I |
| Skill Test / Typing Test | Mandatory — DEO posts require a typing speed test; LDC/JSA posts require a typing test in English or Hindi |
Certain sections or modules within Tier II are qualifying in nature — candidates must clear the minimum cutoff to proceed, regardless of performance in other sections. Final merit is based on Tier II performance.
(Exact section-wise marks and structure within Tier II are revised periodically by SSC — our faculty updates class material each cycle to match the current official pattern.)
Selection Process
- Tier I — Qualifying/shortlisting stage
- Tier II — CBE + mandatory Skill/Typing Test; primary basis for merit
- Document Verification — For shortlisted candidates
- Final Selection — Based on Tier II performance and post preference
